Last night at approx. 9:45pm, Flint Police Officers were conducting surveillance in the area of Orange Lane and Bellcreek. Officers observed a suspicious vehicle and approached the vehicle to investigate. The vehicle rammed an Officers vehicle and occupants began firing shots at that Officer. Flint Police Officers returned fire. Three suspects fled from the vehicle on foot. Within minutes all three suspects were in custody. Two suspects were transported to a local hospital for gun shot wounds and were in good condition. The third suspect was not struck and was transported to the Flint Police Department and lodged in jail. There were no Officers injured in this incident. The two injured suspects have since been released from the hospital and were lodged in jail.
Surveillance was being conducted in this area due to an incident the previous night in which shots were fired into an occupied home in a drive-by shooting. Although there were nine people inside the residence at that time there were no injuries in that incident. Flint Police had received information that at least one person in the home at the time of this first incident could identify the suspect, but that person would not come forward and report to the police what he knew. It is believed that the second incident, in which shots were fired at Flint Police, was a result of an attempt by persons related to the previous incident to retaliate against the suspects of the drive by shooting.
If you are a victim of a crime it is in everyone's best interest to report everything that you know to the police. When someone attempts to retaliate, it often needlessly ends with additional people injured and/or in jail. This type of activity can turn into a vicious cycle on continuing crime, with families torn apart and grieving for lost loved ones. The Flint Police Department is thankful that no lives were lost in this incident.

We received this via private message on our Facebook page early Monday morning after the snow storm....
"I saw a FPD officer tonight pull over get out of his cruiser on Corunna Rd between Ballenger and Bradley and help push a stuck vehicle. As I was with my friend I told her look at that, this is why I talk so highly of Flint Police, he didn't have to do that. As much criticism as police across the country are taking nowadays along with all the brutality videos and power abusing videos circulating the internet you guys still remain an amazing force in my eyes as well as everyone I talk to about it. I don't know if it's possible that that officer can be identified by my description of his friendly gesture last night but if it is possible I'd like him to know that my friend and I saw his act of kindness and again want to say thank you!"
We have identified the officer as Ofc. Frost and passed on this gentleman's appreciation. And we thank him for taking the time to write to us about this incident.
