The City of Flint Police Department is welcoming its newest member. Edo the police canine has joined the Flint Police Department. Edo is a 4 year old male German Shepard imported from Poland and donated to the Flint Police Department by the Little Traverse Bay Band Tribal Police Department, located near Petoskey, Michigan. Officer John Boismier of the Flint Police Department will be Edo’s handler; together they will make up Flint’s K9 unit.
Edo is currently certified through the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers (NAPCH) in human tracking, handler protection, area & article searching, suspect location and obedience and will be a valuable asset to the FPD. Officer Boismier and Edo will join the cooperative efforts of other Genesee County K9 teams, including Michigan State Police, to meet the effective K9 deployment needs for the Flint, Genesee County and broader Southeastern Michigan Law Enforcement Region. Edo’s food and medical care will be provided by Michigan State University Veterinary Services.
After working shifts together with handler Officer John Boismier, Edo will stay with the Boismier family to strengthen the bond between officer and dog. “The two are developing a trusting relationship with one another in order to work effectively in the field together, just like any police partners,” said Flint Police Chief James Tolbert. Officer Boismier and Edo began duty this week on October 6, 2014.
Early this morning Flint Police Officers responded to the area of Court/Hubbard for a report of banging noises coming from inside of a vacant house. Upon arrival, the officers could hear the noises and observed that a door to the residence had been forcibly entered. While approaching the house officers heard a scurrying noise towards the attic. A nearby resident loaned the officers a ladder which assisted in locating a suspect that was hiding in the attic underneath insulation. Copper piping had been removed from within the walls of the residence. The suspect was arrested and charges are pending review by the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office.
