Last week Flint Police Sgt. David Bigelow (left), Michigan State Police Sergeant Lenny Jaskulka (right) and Private Fire Investigator Mark Simpson (Retired Flint Fire Dept Lieutenant, not pictured) received the IAAI Arson Investigators of the Year Award. Genesee County Assistant Prosecutors Gladys Christopherson (center) and Karen Hanson (not pictured) received the award for Prosecutors of the year. This award stemmed from the Rosehaven Manor Arson Investigation. Bigelow, Jaskulka, and Christopherson also received these awards last year. Congratulations to all!

On 05/25/14 Flint Police responded to a residence in the 2000 blk. Dwight for a woman down. On scene, Patricia Alley (32) was found to be deceased. An autopsy later determined that her death was caused by blunt force trauma. The victim's husband, Craig Alley (32), has been arrested, charged and arraigned for 2nd degree Murder.
On 05/23/14 Flint Police responded to a shooting in the 5600 blk. Baldwin. At that location a female had been shot on the left side of her torso. The victim was originally said to be in critical condition but was soon upgraded to good condition. Michigan State Police stopped a vehicle in the area a short time after the shooting was reported. A gun which was the same caliber as that used in the shooting on Baldwin was located in the vehicle. Both occupants of the vehicle (18 and 16 years old) were arrested. Those occupants have since been charged and arraigned for Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm. The 18 year old suspect is identified as Damien Turner. The 16 year old suspect is being charged as an adult.
On 05/23/14 the Flint Fire Department responded to the 2600 blk. Begole for a report of a fire. On scene a fire was found behind a vacant house. There was damage to a house and a neighboring garage. The joint FPD/MSP Arson Investigation Team responded to the scene. A 14 year old suspect was arrested and charges are pending with the Genesee County Prosecutors Office.

On May 6, 2014, Flint Police Officers responded to the shooting of two individuals in the area of Bradley and Pencombe in the city of Flint. Investigation revealed Jalen Williams to be the suspect in this incident. Warrants for Williams arrest were secured from the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office and Williams turned himself in at the Flint Police Department on May 23, 2014. Williams is currently being held in the Genesee County jail awaiting court proceedings.
On, 5/27/14, just after 3:00 am, Flint Police Officers responded to the 2600 block of Begole St in reference to someone stripping a vacant house. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect flee on foot. Despite the torrential rain, Flint Police Officers exited their cruisers and gave chase, apprehending the suspect in the 2300 block of Begole. Officers discovered a large amount of scrap metal in the rear of the suspect's vehicle. The vehicle was impounded and forfeited. Great job to all involved!

On 10/09/13, Drake James Jr. was shot and killed near the corner of Martin Luther King Blvd and Ruth Ave in the City of Flint. A female was also assaulted. During the course of the investigation, several suspects were identified and warrants were issued earlier this month. As of today, all four of those suspects (pictured below) have been arrested, charged and arraigned for Felony Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, Extortion and Gang Membership Felonies.

UPDATE... Martwan Johnson (22) who was wanted for Armed Robbery, Felony Firearm, 1st Degree Home Invasion, Felon in Possession, and Felonious Assault in now IN CUSTODY. Johnson was arrested this afternoon by the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team, which is comprised of law enforcement officers from multiple jurisdictions including the Flint Police.

Multiple Felony charges have been issued by the Genesee County Prosecutor’s office for a Flint man (26). The suspect was arrested on Wednesday by Flint Police after a teenager, who had been abducted in Mt. Morris on Monday, escaped from a Flint residence where she was being held by the suspect. The suspect, who we are not yet identifying pending his arraignment, is being charged with Kidnapping, 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree, 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct 2nd Degree and Assault by Strangulation. The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Flint and Mt. Morris Police Departments.

Yesterday, 05/13/14, Sampson Marks (54) pled guilty to 2nd Degree Murder for the death of Sammie McBroom (80). Sammie McBroom was found inside his residence in the 500 blk. E. Genesee with blunt force trauma to his head on 04/18/13. Sampson Marks was previously the victim’s step-son through a past marriage. Sampson Marks is awaiting sentencing. A 2nd Degree Murder conviction can carry up to life in prison.
On Monday, May 12, 2014 Flint Police Sergeant Devon Bernritter received an award from the US Attorney's Office. The award was presented in recognition of Sgt. Bernritter's lead role in an investigation that took two of Flint's most violent armed offenders off the street. Sgt. Bernritter is pictured 2nd from the left.

On 03/26/14 a man reported that he went to the area of Saginaw & 7th Street to sell jewelry that he had listed on Craigslist. The subject that he met with produced a handgun , assaulted the victim and took the jewelry. A suspect was developed and has since been arrested, charged and arraigned for Armed Robbery, CCW, Felony Firearm and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime. A second suspect has not yet been identified. On 5/9/14 at approximately 2:30 pm, Flint Police Officers responded to the 5700 block of Winthrop reference a disturbance and a possible man with a gun. The responding officers arrived and found multiple handguns, as well as two unattended infant children in close proximity to loaded handguns. Two handguns were found to be stolen. Flint Police arrested five subjects for multiple fresh felony charges and misdemeanor warrants, and lodged them at the Flint City Jail. CPS was contacted regarding the children. Great job to Officer Morey and all officers involved!

On 05/01/14, shots were fired into a residence in the 1400 blk. Chevrolet. An adult male inside the residence was struck in the leg. A suspect was developed and located later that night. After a brief stand off, the suspect was arrested without incident. That suspect, Julius Brown (25), has been charged and arraigned for Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Armed Robbery and Manufacture of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine).
