IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING FIREWORKS EVENT TONIGHT.... Please read and share!

The City of Flint has amended its curfew ordinance to 
include specific rules regarding unsupervised minors at special events within the city. The amended ordinance requires that during special events within the city, unsupervised minors under the age of 17 cannot occupy any area of the city being used to facilitate the event after 6:00pm and until 6:00am the following day. This curfew can be set at the discretion of the police chief to “protect the health, safety and welfare of the public” and will include any area of the city which serves to facilitate special events.

The ordinance states that “unsupervised minors create disorderly and dangerous situations at such events” and that “there is a need to restrict (their) presence…as the Chief of Police shall deem necessary.” “We want the people who come to Flint to feel safe and secure in bringing their families to enjoy our special events,” said Chief of Police James Tolbert. “Unsupervised minors, especially in large groups, have been known to disrupt that security and create situations where visitors cannot enjoy themselves due to concerns over their own safety.”

As set forth in the ordinance, any unsupervised minors in violation of this curfew can be detained until such time that they can be released to a parent or legal guardian. In addition, if a minor is in violation of this curfew, the parent or legal guardian of the minors will be found “in violation of their parental responsibility to exercise reasonable control and supervision over the minor child” face fines of $250 plus “the actual cost to the police department in arresting and detaining the minor”.

Minors attended by a parent or guardian or those with special permission to attend education or employment are exceptions to this rule. Minors who possess written authorization to attend work or school during special events have until one hour after their work or school hours to vacate the area of the event. Each special event will have a specifically designate geographic area for which the curfew will be in effect, as defined by the Chief of Police. Yesterday, a man was driving west bound on I 69 approaching the I 475 interchange when, due to a medical condition, he lost control of his vehicle. An alert commercial truck driver observed the man's car travelling dangerously back and forth between lanes of traffic. The commercial truck driver used his Freightliner vehicle as a blockade and slowed the man's vehicle to a stop before any other motorist were injured. The man was transported to the hospital and unfortunately died as a result of the medical condition. The Flint Police Department wanted to recognize this commercial truck driver for his quick response and actions that quickly ended a very dangerous situation.

On June 26, 2014, the Flint Police Department conducted a sting targeting the activities of both prostitutes and persons attempting to solicit the services of a prostitute in the city of Flint. The sting resulted in 3 felony and 5 misdemeanor arrests and the recovery of quantities of both cocaine and heroin. These stings are expected to continue.....

David McKenze (30) has been arrested, charged and arraigned for the listed charges from an incident that occurred on 06/20/14. A rifle and a shot gun were also seized as a result of this arrest. McKenze is a convicted felon with 2 previous weapons convictions.
